and that ever, tonight vallejo's mayor is not staying quiet after someone torched his law office over the weekend. the fbi is investigating the fire as a possible act of domestic terrorism. nbc bay area's jodi hernandez joins us in vallejo this evening. jodi, what do we have tonight? >> reporter: raj, vallejo police say they fully expect to have the fbi and atf help in this investigation. they say evidence that they pulled from mayor osby davis' office has now been sent to an atf lab. meanwhile, the mayor is finally talking about what happened here. mayor osby davis talked to reporters about the arson fire for the first time this morning. he said he does believe the torching was political. while he would not elaborate on who he believes is behind it, he certainly has had plenty of critics through the years. he has most recently taken a lot of heat for a slew of officer-involved shootings. the mayor says whoever is responsible, he is determined not to let this steer him from his profession as a lawyer or from his duties as mayor. >> although i believe that the last criminal act is part
for conspiracy to distribute meth. >> today the fbi, along with our local partners conducted a number of law enforcement actions, interdictions across the san jose area. >> reporter: the fbi says its gang task force in the south bay led the operation. the agency won't say if the suspects are part of a larger organized group or gang, but agents needed help from neighboring police departments to make the arrests. >> again, i can't comment on the number of officers that were out there. but there was an appropriate number of tactical personnel, fbi s.w.a.t. personnel involved in several interdictions, in addition to numerous others across the san jose area. >> reporter: neighbors at the blossom hill apartments say they're not surprised by the early morning raid. >> i mean it's not the first time it happened before. they came. they took out some people from here, from these apartments. we don't know. we don't know why or what happened. >> reporter: sources tell us the area is populated with parolees and probationers, which is part of the reason that esa says she doesn't know any of her neighbors.
. and earlier this month, a woman was killed and her daughter-in-law seriously hurt when a driver hit them as they walked along a sidewalk in walnut creek. they are scenes that have police sending out warnings. >> watching your speed, paying attention to your surroundings and not being distracted by any of your electronic devices. and just the bottom line is paying attention. >> reporter: the cause of today's crash is still under investigation. and while the victims are expected to recover, those who witnessed it are rattled. they say drivers need to be more careful. >> just drive slowly. just take it easy. >> reporter: we are back here live where you can see some of the damage that remains out here tonight. both a nail salon and an art gallery were hit by the cars. now five of the six victims we are told received minor injuries, while one person, a woman, a pedestrian that was struck here received serious injuries. again, the cause of this crash is still under investigation. reporting live in downtown oakland, i'm jodi hernandez, nbc bay area news. >> jodi, thank you. >>> across the bay n
